Cartooning for Peace : 20th anniversary
To mark its 20th anniversary, Cartooning for Peace is presenting “Let’s Defend Democracy!”, an exhibition of international press cartoons highlighting the threats facing our democracies. This free public event is supported by the City of Strasbourg and the Journalism & Citizenship Association. It will be displayed on the railings surrounding Villa Schutzenberger, at 76 allée de la Robertsau.
turing 12 press cartoons from around the world, selected from the book Let’s Defend Democracy!, published by Éditions de La Martinière, the exhibition offers a sharp, sometimes biting perspective on the threats facing our democracies. Through humour and boldness, these cartoons invite us to reflect on the importance of defending our freedoms.
The cartoonists of Cartooning for Peace refuse to give in to resignation. They believe that the fight for democracy is far from over and, rather than being moribund, needs to regain its full vitality in an era of profound change.
Art, humour, critical thinking and the irreverence of press cartoons, together with the commitment of civil society, are powerful antidotes to the gloomy passions that threaten us. They are also reminders that another world is always possible.
The exhibition is being held alongside the World forum for Democracy (2–3 November at the Council of Europe) and the European Journalism Conferences (4–6 November) in Strasbourg. Both are major public events offering opportunities to reflect together on the future of our democracies.
Join us from 5 November at Villa Schutzenberger to discover this free exhibition!
Wheelchair accessible.
